Margaret Greenwood responds to Conservative attempts to avoid blame for child poverty

end poverty now!

Margaret Greenwood, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, responding to Gordon Henderson’s claim that his party is not to blame for child poverty in his constituency, said “Gordon Henderson’s remarks come after Home Secretary Priti Patel claimed the government was not responsible for poverty. She could not be more wrong.

“The impact of Conservative government policies on the lives of children in low income families has been devastating, and their failure to understand this is breath-taking.

“On 12 December, people will have the opportunity to vote for a Labour government that will scrap Universal Credit, end the two child limit and make tackling child poverty the priority it should be.”
