Salford’s GCSE Results Buck The National Trend

Congratulations to Salford’s school pupils for their ‘astonishing’ GCSE results which have bucked the national trend.

This year, 52 per cent of pupils achieved five A-C grades including English and mathematics – an increase of four per cent when compared to last year.

The national trend has shown a sharp decline with the overall proportion of students achieving A to C grades falling by 2.1 per cent and a drop in the numbers gaining C or above in English. The percentage of candidates receiving the top grades has also dropped.

I’d like to congratulate all our young people for their astonishing results – they should be very proud of themselves. A lot of hard work, stress and dedication has gone into achieving these great results.

Nationally the number of candidates receiving a grade C is at its lowest level since 2008 which demonstrates how hard our teaching staff have worked. I hope they are celebrating too!

Life isn’t only about exam grades but today's results show we are doing all we can to give young people the best start to life in Salford.

Well done to everyone involved, great day!
