Jonathan Ashworth MP, Labour’s Shadow Health and Social Care Secretary, responding to news that just a fraction of capital funding promised by ministers has reached the frontline, said “When we know Trusts are grappling with a £6 billion maintenance backlog compromising safe, high quality patient care, it’s staggering that promised money still hasn’t found its way to the frontline. No one will take seriously Boris Johnson’s vague promise of 20 new hospital upgrades when Matt Hancock can’t even deliver on existing commitments.
“Our research recently found hospitals with ceilings falling in, pipes bursting and reliance on outdated equipment. Patients deserve better.
“Capital investment is a major priority for Labour and a key part of our vision of a high investment economic policy to ensure we have the very best modern health facilities possible.”
