Marsha de Cordova MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Disabled People, responding to comments made by Sarah Newton about ESA underpayments, said “The Department has repeatedly dodged accountability for this catastrophic error.
“The Minister has had to be dragged to update Parliament on ESA underpayments in three separate Urgent Questions in the past seven months. This is despite underpayments affecting over two hundred thousand ill and disabled people.
“Shockingly twenty thousand people who may have been affected, died before their cases have been reviewed.
“Given that this is the seventh review into disabled people wrongly deprived of social security by this government, it is shocking that the Department continues to evade responsibility.”
