Our National Policy Forum event in June was a great success. The forum gave an opportunity for the community to participate and contribute towards the shaping of policies around issues which affect our communities. We had good attendance from a variety of different backgrounds.
Members discussed aspects of their lives, including employment, education and austerity. We listened to everyone’s own experiences and compared how our different cultures affect our approaches and expectations. This information will be fed back to the National Policy Forum and will help us to do much more for our communities.
The guest speakers on the day were Blackburn Councillor Wajid Khan and Ordsall Councillor Tanya Burch - Little Hulton Councillor Rob Sharp was also present.
Councillor Rob Sharpe said “I was very impressed with this BAME group meeting. It was well organised. The discussions were really forward thinking and the whole engagement was friendly and relaxed. It’s great to have this input into policy – it is important to feel that we are being listened to.”
