Angela Rayner MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to the Public Accounts Committee report on the academy school system, said “The current academy system is not fit for purpose, as this cross-party report confirms today.
“The Tories have thrown money at an academy and free school programme that is not improving outcomes for pupils, whilst schools face budget cuts year after year.
“Labour will end the scandal of individuals and companies profiting from schools they are involved in and stop fat cat pay at multi-academy trusts.
“For too long, parents and local communities have been shut out of decisions affecting their local schools. Labour will give power back to communities so that our schools are run by the people who know them best – parents, teachers and local communities.”
