Peter Dowd MP, Labour’s Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, commenting on new Public Sector Finance figures which has shown borrowing to be higher than anticipated, said “Four years after the Conservatives claimed austerity would have closed the deficit, they are still borrowing more than expected.

“The Government’s shambolic handling of Brexit is clearly having an effect on the wider economy. It’s time for a Labour government to invest for the future and rebuild our economy so that it works for the many, not the few.”
