Sue Hayman MP, Labour’s Shadow Environment Secretary, responding to the Government’s amendments to the Fisheries Bill, said “This Government has broken promises on fishing so many times, there is every prospect they will do it again.
“Today’s announcement is an admission that this vital piece of post-Brexit legislation is simply not up to scratch. The British public deserve better than the half-baked, patchwork legislation Michael Gove keeps trotting out.
“Rather than make more empty promises he won’t keep, Michael Gove should back Labour’s amendments to redistribute quota more fairly. He should also support our plan to require more of the fish caught in our waters to be landed in British ports to help create jobs and regenerate coastal communities.”
